Hydrophobicity in Copper Tailings

Expande is inviting companies to prequalify for the Hydrophobicity in Copper Tailings challenge by 7 September 2021.

Mining company: BHP

Technological solutions are sought to adjust the physical properties of the solid contained in the tailings to repel water, that is, to increase its hydrophobicity. The final objective of the challenge implies that the material drains easily, promoting water recovery that leads to reduce the water make-up of the concentrator plant, and also produces better properties in the tailings for further mechanical drainage.

It is desirable that the proposal considers one or more chemical reagents to induce hydrophobicity to the particles of the material. However, proposals of other nature that meet the requirements in an innovative way will also be accepted.
